I have been teaching at the University level since 1993. In 11 years, I have developed and delivered 19 courses in 3 different departments. I have also been an online co-instructor for several distance learning courses for a Rehabilitation Counseling Master's degree program through San Diego State University. Additionally, I developed and delivered numerous seminars for organizations such as the Insurance Education Association, Goodwill and Pride Industries. In order to increase my skills as a teacher, I completed a master's degree in 2003 in Educational Technology (see my ePortfolio). Integrating technology into the classroom is a powerful and rewarding tool. For example, I often embed video clips into my PowerPoint slides; I may use a clip that I shoot and edit myself or I may incorporate something interesting from TV that I recorded the day before on my computer. Being able to connect to the Internet during a lecture to seek information also adds an immediacy to learning that is quite exciting. I
enjoy developing training as much as presenting it. The creative element
of deciding how to best present information so that it is interesting,
relevant and applicable is rewarding to me. I find that teaching is involved
in many aspects of my work and my goal is always to communicate information
in such a way that every type of learner can grasp the meaning of my words.
